Religious Intolerance in Ilorin: House of Traditional Worshipper Burnt After Threats From Islamic Neighbors

A house owned by a Nigerian woman practising traditional religion, known as OnΓαΉ£αΊΉΜαΉ£e, has been burnt in Ilorin, Kwara State, following alleged threats from members of the community over her religious beliefs.
The woman, a lawful property owner, reportedly built the house legally in the Ilorin community where she resided. Sources said some residents openly opposed her presence, citing her practice of traditional religion, and allegedly subjected her to threats and intimidation.
It was gathered that the woman reported the matter to the police in Ilorin after the threats intensified. Police authorities reportedly summoned the individuals involved and warned them that she had a constitutional right to reside and own property in any part of Nigeria.
Despite the police intervention, the threats allegedly continued. According to the report, she was warned that her house would be set ablaze if she did not stop practising her traditional religion.
On January 1, 2026, while the woman was away attending the Osun Festival at her other residence, neighbours reportedly contacted her to inform her that the house was on fire. The building was later confirmed to have been burnt.
The incident has been described as arson following prior threats, raising concerns over religious intolerance and safety. Calls have been made for a thorough investigation and for those responsible to be brought to justice.
