The Borno State Police Command has dismissed claims credited to the Nigerian Army that it arrested a suspected suicide bomber in the state, describing the report as misleading.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, said the suspect was arrested by the police and is currently in police custody.
Daso clarified that no active improvised explosive device was recovered from the suspect, contrary to earlier reports.
He cautioned against the dissemination of unverified information, explaining that items recovered during the arrest included electrical wires, old phone batteries and scrap materials, none of which constituted explosive components.
The police spokesperson urged members of the public and security agencies to verify information before making public statements, stressing the need for accurate reporting on security-related matters.
