Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped the Aniwo 1 of Aafin community in Ile-Ire District, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Oba Simeon Olaonipekun, along with one of his sons, Olaolu, during a violent attack on the monarch’s palace.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, New Year’s Eve, when about eight armed men stormed the palace, firing sporadically and demanding to see the monarch and his wife.

A family source who witnessed the attack said panic broke out as the assailants opened fire after noticing attempts by occupants to secure the palace and switch off lights. The attackers later abducted the monarch and one of his sons, who is currently serving as a member of the National Youth Service Corps.

The source added that the attackers appeared to be specifically targeting the Oba and his wife, noting that the leader of the group spoke fluent English. The Olori (queen) was later taken to a hospital following the incident.

Efforts by the local vigilante group to repel the attackers were unsuccessful, as only two members were reportedly on duty at the time and were outgunned.

The incident was reported to nearby police divisions and local security outfits on the night of the attack. Confirming the development, the Kwara State Police Command said it was aware of the incident and that details were still being gathered.
