The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, is set to confer the prestigious Yoruba title of “Okanlomo of Yorubaland” on Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, this Saturday, December 21, 2025.

On the same occasion, Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari, representing Zamfara West, will be installed as the “Obaloyin of Yorubaland.” The announcement was made public through a flier obtained by PUNCH Online, inviting the public to witness the event.

“Okanlomo of Yorubaland” translates as “the one dear to the hearts of all Yoruba people,” a title that reflects affection and recognition within the Yoruba race.

Confirming the ceremony, the Alaafin’s media aide, Bode Durojaiye, told our correspondent that the event would proceed as scheduled, with a formal press statement to follow.

The installation comes months after the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, conferred the title of “Okanlomo of Oodua” on philanthropist and Bada Olubadan designate, Dotun Sanusi, sparking a brief discussion over chieftaincy precedence among Yoruba monarchs, which stakeholders later resolved.

In a related development, the Ooni recently honoured First Lady Remi Tinubu with the title of Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua, a title historically held by the late Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, wife of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, in recognition of leadership and societal contributions.

The Alaafin’s installation ceremony is expected to draw traditional rulers and dignitaries from across Yorubaland, including the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III; the Sultan of Sokoto; and the Soun of Ogbomoso, among other cultural leaders.
