Ogun residents seek Abiodun’s help over bad road

Transport workers and residents have lamented over the bad state of Ayetoro Road in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the road which connects Ayetoro community to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has not undergone any construction by the government for some decades now.

A resident, Abbey Onifade, while lamenting over the bad state of the road, said people in the community had been enduring the situation for a very long time, adding that the community lacked adequate infrastructure.

“The Ayetoro community road is bad; it has many potholes that usually damage vehicles; there are also no drainages, so the water that is supposed to flow through drainages stays on the road and it worsens the situation everyday. We also lack hospital and have been experiencing poor electrical supply in the community,” he said.

He, however, urged the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, to construct the road so as to enhance economic growth in the community.

In the same vein, another resident who was bewailed about the condition of the road said, “We are not satisfied with the condition of the road. The cost of the fare is much just because of this bad road. When it rains, we cannot pass again.”

A community leader, Lateef Oriola, popularly known as Baale, who expressed sadness over the condition of the road, said many petitions had been sent to the government, but added nothing had been done.

He explained that palliatives to improve the condition on the road were given through donations from companies in the community and communal efforts.

Oriola said, “We have been writing to the state government for 10 years, but they did nothing about it. We are the ones that have been grading the road every year in collaboration with the companies in the community.

“They (government) should please help us construct the road; our community is developing and government officials also ply this area from Abeokuta to collect their tax, but they have never given priority to us.”
