The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that hoodlums attacked the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) airspace site in Lagos, leaving a police officer and a private security guard injured.

The incident occurred on Thursday, September 25, at about 5:05 a.m. during a heavy downpour, when about 20 suspected vandals stormed the facility.

According to security sources, two police officers on duty, Insp. Dada Fisayo and Insp. Francis Azurunwa, came under attack from the hoodlums, who were armed with cutlasses, axes, tiles and other dangerous weapons.

Although the officers managed to repel the attackers, another group of vandals reportedly exploited the poor visibility caused by the rainfall and the porosity of the compound to steal two 7.5KVA inverters and lengths of cable from the installation.

Police confirmed that Insp. Fisayo sustained injuries and has since received treatment and is set to be discharged. A private security guard, Babatunde Makinde, also suffered a deep cut on his left hand and is currently receiving medical care.

The Divisional Police Officer in charge, along with detectives, visited the crime scene, while efforts are ongoing to track down the suspects and recover the stolen items.

Authorities assured that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
