PHOTOS: NYSC DG Charges ICT Officers to Strengthen Cybersecurity

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has challenged the Scheme’s ICT officers to adopt proactive strategies and align with global best practices in order to safeguard NYSC’s digital assets against increasing cyber threats.

Speaking during an engagement with the ICT department, Brig. Gen. Nafiu underscored the importance of securing NYSC’s data infrastructure, especially as the Scheme continues to digitize its operations, including online registration, deployment, clearance, and documentation of corps members across the country.

He noted that the rising wave of cybercrime globally demands that ICT professionals within the Scheme must remain ahead of potential threats through capacity building, innovation, and strategic foresight.

“The safety of our digital infrastructure is critical to the smooth running of NYSC. You must be proactive, strategic, and deliberate in securing our platforms against cyberattacks. Our systems hold sensitive data of Nigerian youths and therefore must not be compromised,” he said.

The NYSC DG further urged the officers to continuously improve their technical skills, embrace new technologies, and collaborate with other cybersecurity stakeholders to ensure the resilience of the Scheme’s online platforms.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening ICT operations within NYSC, assuring that management would continue to provide the necessary support and resources to help officers discharge their duties effectively.

The NYSC’s ICT infrastructure serves as the backbone for critical services such as corps members’ mobilization, registration, posting, and payment systems. Protecting these assets, Brig. Gen. Nafiu said, is central to maintaining public trust and ensuring efficient service delivery.
