The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has officially declared his intention to seek re-election for a second term in office in the upcoming 2026 governorship election.

Governor Oyebanji made the announcement while addressing party faithful, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders during a town hall meeting in Ado-Ekiti on Monday. He said the decision to run again was based on his administration’s achievements and the overwhelming support received from the people of the state.

According to him, β€œThe journey we began together in 2022 is yielding fruits, but there is still much to be done. I am offering myself once again to continue the work we started β€” to further improve infrastructure, education, health care, and the overall welfare of our people.”

The governor also expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC), under which he was elected in 2022, remains the most viable platform to deliver sustainable development to the people of Ekiti.

Reactions have since trailed the declaration, with supporters hailing his performance while critics urge a level playing field for all aspirants ahead of the party primaries.

With the 2026 governorship race beginning to gather momentum, Oyebanji’s declaration is expected to shape the political landscape in Ekiti in the months ahead.
