A high-level reconciliation meeting brokered by President Bola Tinubu has brought an end to Rivers State’s long-running political crisis.
The meeting, which took place at the President’s official residence in Abuja, brought together key stakeholders, including suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, suspended Speaker Martins Amaewhule, and former governorship candidate Magnus Abe.
Other attendees included federal lawmakers from Rivers, party chairmen of both the APC and PDP in the state, and senior government officials.
After the closed-door meeting, both Fubara and Wike announced that peace had returned to the state, with all parties agreeing to put their differences aside and work together for the state’s progress.
The meeting is a significant breakthrough in resolving the tensions that peaked in March when President Tinubu suspended the governor, his deputy, and members of the state assembly, appointing an administrator to oversee the state temporarily. Fubara and Wike described the day as an opportunity to thank God for the peace that had been restored.
Rivers State is expected to experience a new era of stability and progress.
