Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has sparked controversy with his recent involvement in Lagos State’s governance, particularly in the demolition of structures identified as illegal.
According to Governor Uzodinma, he joined Ndi Igbo in Lagos State, on behalf of the South Eastern Governors, to receive the report of the Joint Committee set up by the Lagos State Government.
“The report, as received, reflects the collective input of all stakeholders, including representatives of Ndi Igbo, and provides a clear path toward resolution,” Governor Uzodinma said.
He emphasized that “Nigeria belongs to us all” and urged Ndi Igbo to “look back home and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the region.”
However, Adeoluorisa, an X user, expressed frustration over the situation, saying: “The houses of many Yoruba have been demolished in Lagos… But as usual a Yoruba governor has agreed to settle matter with just one single group of people: Igbo.”
Adeoluorisa questioned the motives behind the demolitions, asking, “My problem here, is, are the houses being destroyed in Lagos intentionally, or are they being destroyed because of illegal structures?”
Adeoluorisa also criticized the Yoruba people, saying, “We are the only people on earth that allows anybody to treat us as “slaves” in our own land.
As a Yoruba, it is nearly impossible for me to walk into any Yoruba govt office to express my feelings… But anybody—especially the Igbo occupy special place in the hearts of our govt.”
Governor Uzodinma’s actions have raised questions about his role in Lagos governance and whether he is overstepping boundaries.
As Adeoluorisa noted, “Just read how a Governor talks authoritatively about another Governor’s state, as if he owns it… We are continually being projected as extremely weak people.”
The controversy surrounding Governor Uzodinma’s involvement in Lagos governance has raised debate about the role of Governors in other states’ affairs.
