Lagos Govt cracks down on Indiscriminate waste disposal: ₦250,000 fine or 3-Month jail term for offenders

The Lagos State Government has introduced strict penalties for environmental offenders, with fines of ₦250,000 or up to three months imprisonment for individuals caught dumping refuse illegally or littering public spaces.

The state will no longer tolerate disregard for environmental laws, and repeat offenders will face even harsher penalties.

The Government has already prosecuted over 3,000 offenders, and enforcement teams will work around the clock to arrest, prosecute, name, and shame violators.

Developers who dump building materials on drains or roads will face prosecution, and such sites will be sealed up.

The Lagos State Government urges residents to take responsibility for proper waste disposal, especially during the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir festivities.

Residents are advised to sort, bag, and hand over waste to approved Private Sector Participation operators across all wards in the state.

The Government emphasizes the need for collective responsibility in maintaining a clean environment.
