The newly established Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti, is gearing up to admit its first batch of students in September 2025, according to Vice Chancellor Professor Gbenga Aribisala.
The institution, founded on February 20, 2025, aims to produce highly skilled graduates equipped with innovative and problem-solving abilities.
During a media briefing, Aribisala outlined the university’s vision, faculties, and readiness to commence academic activities.
“Admission for the first academic calendar will begin in September this year in four different faculties – Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences; Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Sciences; Faculty of Computer and Information Technology with courses like Mechatronics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cybercrime, Security and Information Technology,” he revealed.
The Vice Chancellor emphasized the importance of staff quality, stating, “University is a community of scholars.
The management will prioritise the recruitment of competent academic and non-academic staff who have a passion for academic research works that would win grants, attract global attention, be highly respectful, neat and always ready to assist students and anyone, when the need arises.”
Aribisala assured that the institution would maintain high standards, adhering to federal character principles in staff recruitment and administrative procedures.
“Advertisement and every process would be in line with the federal character principles to ensure that only staff members with a passion for excellence are engaged,” he added.
Research would be central to the university’s mission, with a focus on producing job creators rather than job seekers.
“Research work would be prioritised to ensure that the university turns out students who will be job creators and not job seekers. We are passionate about building a university that is ICT driven, transparent and with integrity,” Aribisala noted.
The university’s digital platforms, including its official website, are nearing completion to facilitate access to admission and academic information. Aribisala also disclosed partnerships with organizations and individuals to provide basic infrastructure, ensuring potable water and stable electricity supply.
Expressing gratitude to stakeholders, Aribisala appreciated the support of the host community and political leaders, acknowledging the facilities donated by the community and the sense of hospitality that has facilitated the commencement of the academic program.
