Video: Akure erupts in protest over abduction of nine surveyors

Protests have broken out in Akure, Ondo State capital, following the kidnapping of nine surveyors in the Owode Ilu-Abo area of Akure South Local Government.

The surveyors, all natives of Akure, were abducted while working on a project in the area.

In response to the kidnapping, a group of women took to the streets, carrying placards and blocking the busy Oba Adesida Road.

The protesters are demanding the immediate release of the victims and are calling on authorities to take stronger action against the rising wave of abductions in the region.

According to Comfort Afolabi, the sister of one of the kidnapped surveyors, the nine victims were abducted last week.

She revealed that the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N50 million before they would begin negotiations for their release.

However, Afolabi added that the ransom amount has now been increased to N100 million for the victims’ freedom.

The protests in Akure have brought attention to the growing concern of kidnappings in the region. Residents are urging authorities to take decisive action to address the issue and ensure the safe release of the abducted surveyors.
