Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and socio-political organization, Afenifere, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of renowned nationalist, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark.
Edwin Clark, the leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025, at the age of 97.
Afenifere leader, Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, in a condolence message described Clark as “a great man” left a lasting legacy.
Afenifere National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi, quoted Afenifere leader saying “Since the need to ensure that Nigeria serves the best interests of the vast majority became more pertinent, my brother, Chief Edwin Clark, was a very strong advocate. His voice was loud in the agitations for a restructured Nigeria. He always displayed the same strong passions on national issues especially those that affected the South South.
“He was a great man, and his fearlessness and ability to speak his mind will not be forgotten,” Fasoranti said.
“He was a steadfast advocate for a restructured Nigeria and consistently voiced his concerns about national issues, particularly those affecting the South-South region.”
Fasoranti in his statement also remembered the loss of another important figure in Afenifere community, Chief Ayodele Adebanjo, who passed away just days before Clark.
“It is heart-wrenching to lose another comrade so soon,” he said,
The Afenifere leader extended his condolences to the immediate family of Chief Clark, as well as to the people of Delta State and the South-South region at large.
“On behalf of Afenifere and all our compatriots, I mourn with the Clark family, PANDEF, and the people of the South-South.” Farotimi mentioned.
