The Ogun State Government is making important strides in enhancing food security and affordability through the construction of a modern farmers’ market in Asero, Abeokuta.
This initiative aims to provide a conducive and accessible platform for farmers to sell their produce, ultimately reducing prices and increasing food sufficiency.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, revealed that the project is nearing completion, with 85% of the work already done.
The market will feature 40 lock-up shops and 200 open stalls, equipped with essential modern amenities.
Owotomo emphasized that the market will serve as a hub for fresh farm produce, making it readily available to consumers at affordable prices.
This, in turn, will increase sales for farmers and contribute to the state’s food sufficiency goals.
The commissioner highlighted that the project goes beyond physical infrastructure, as it seeks to empower farmers by providing necessary facilities such as clean water and toilet facilities.
This initiative aligns with the present administration’s agenda to ensure food sufficiency and reduce prices of farm produce.
