President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has extended congratulations to Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, on his victory in the December 7 general election.

Tinubu commended the people of Ghana for upholding democratic principles through the peaceful conduct of both presidential and parliamentary elections.

In a telephone call, Tinubu expressed hope that Mahama’s return to power would bring stability to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

He applauded Ghanaians for demonstrating democracy as the preferred path to achieving political stability, economic development, and social justice in Africa.

Tinubu also praised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), for conceding defeat before the official announcement by Ghana’s Electoral Commission.

This gesture reinforced Ghana’s democratic ethos, according to Tinubu.

The Nigerian president reaffirmed Nigeria’s and the region’s commitment to the principles of free and fair elections, emphasizing that the people’s right to choose their leaders will remain a source of pride .
