President Bola Tinubu will welcome Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Presidential Villa in Abuja today, marking an important milestone in the bilateral relations between the two nations.
This visit is particularly noteworthy as it is the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria since 2007, when Dr. Manmohan Singh established a strategic partnership between the two countries.
According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, “President Bola Tinubu will welcome Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a State Visit at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive on Saturday”.
This visit shows the importance of Nigeria-India relations and is expected to yield significant benefits for both nations.
Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Shri G. Balasubramanian, highlighted the long-standing strategic partnership between the two nations, dating back to 2007, with increasing collaboration in sectors such as energy, defense, and the economy. “Over 200 Indian companies have invested more than $27 billion across critical sectors in Nigeria,” he noted.
