The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, has intervened in the EndBad Governance protest case, calling for a review of the court’s decision to adjourn the case until January.

Fagbemi’s move comes after the police arraigned protesters who many of them are minors for various offenses, including treason, following the violent demonstration.

The AGF has directed the Nigeria Police to transfer the case file to his office, specifically to the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF), by Saturday, November 2, 2024.

Additionally, Fagbemi has instructed the DPPF to petition the court to bring the adjournment date forward, seeking an earlier hearing.

While acknowledging that he cannot override the court’s remand order, Fagbemi’s intervention aims to facilitate a swift review of the case .

This development follows concerns over the protesters’ detention and the need for a timely resolution.

The EndBad Governance protest has days ago led to massive demonstrations of properties especially in the northern part of the country, this has sparked intense debate, with some criticizing the government’s handling of the demonstrations.

The AGF’s intervention on the case of minors who were charged to court may alleviate some concerns, but the outcome remains uncertain.
