Liverpool defender, Joel Matip, has announced his retirement from professional football, bringing an end to a storied career that saw him establish himself as a key player at Anfield.

Matip, 32, joined Liverpool in 2016 and made 166 appearances for the Reds, helping the team win the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup.

The Cameroon international’s decision to retire comes as a shock to fans and the football community, given his relatively young age and continued impressive performances.
