FG boost NYSC allowance by 133% to N77,000

The Federal Government has approved a 133% increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, raising it from N33,000 to N77,000.

The néw allowance structure is effective from July 2024.

This development follows the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerian workers.

According to a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by Chairman Ekpo Nta, the increment is part of efforts to provide a robust welfare package for Corps Members.

NYSC Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, had previously advocated for this increase during an advocacy visit to the Commission. Ahmed expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, stating that this timely gesture will boost Corps Members’ morale and motivation to serve the nation.

“The increase is a demonstration of the government’s commitment to the well-being of Corps Members and its recognition of their contributions to national development,” Ahmed said.

Caroline Embu, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, confirmed the development, emphasizing the government’s dedication to supporting youth development and national service.

This significant increase is expected to positively impact the lives of over 300,000 NYSC members currently serving across Nigeria.
