No Going Back on Computer Village Relocation tlo Kantagua – Lagos Govt

The Lagos State government has reiterated its determination to relocate traders from the bustling Ikeja Computer Village to Kantagua in Abule-Egba area, emphasizing that the decision is final.

Dr. Olajide Babatunde, special adviser to the State Governor on eGIS and Urban Development, reaffirmed this stance during an inspection tour of Ikeja Computer Village on Tuesday.

He emphasized government’s commitment to the regeneration and development of urban areas in the state under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Accompanied by top management of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA), led by General Manager Arc. Gbolahan Oki, Babatunde, the special adviser outlined the rationale behind the relocation plan.

He explained that the current location of the Computer Village, originally designated as a residential area, had evolved into a full-fledged market, contrary to the state’s urban development plan.

“The distortion caused by commercial activities within the area necessitates corrective measures to restore its residential status,” Babatunde stated.

He emphasized that the relocation aimed to ensure proper urban planning and prevent adverse effects on the city’s infrastructure and residents.

Highlighting the benefits of the relocation, Babatunde mentioned the provision of world-class facilities in the new location, including schools, hospitals, hotels, banking facilities, and storage rooms.

He stressed that the move aligned with the THEMES+ agenda of the current administration, aimed at redeveloping urban centers in line with modern city standards.

Addressing the concern of traders and shop owners, Babatunde assured transparency in the relocation process, emphasizing stakeholder consultation and involvement.

He underscored government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth transition and mitigating any disruptions to business activities.

Babatunde concluded by highlighting the broader impact of urban redevelopment initiatives across Lagos State, promising tangible improvements in traffic decongestion, security, and overall urban living conditions.
