A devastating stabbing attack marred the 650th-anniversary celebrations in Solingen, Germany, leaving three people dead and five critically wounded.

The assault occurred on Friday night, August 23, 2024, at the Fronhof market square, where live music performances were underway.

According to police, the unidentified perpetrator, still at large, launched the attack around 10 p.m, targeting multiple individuals.

Eyewitness told the police that the perpetrator has wounded several people indiscriminately with a knife on a central square, the Fronhof.

The Police who is yet to identify the attacker said they had little information on the perpetrator as of press time.

They said they believe the stabbings were carried out by a lone attacker.

Solingen Mayor, Tim-Oliver Kurzbach, expressed profound sorrow, stating, “My heart is torn apart by this attack on our city. I have tears in my eyes thinking of those we’ve lost. I pray for those fighting for their lives.”

North Rhine-Westphalia Interior Minister Herbert Reul visited the scene, describing the attack as a targeted assault on human life. He refrained from speculating on the motive.

Germany, known for its low incidence of fatal stabbings and shootings, is shaken by this brutal incident.

The investigation continues, with authorities urging witnesses to be calm.
