2024 WASSCE Results Out: Records 79.81 pass rate, seized 215,267 results over irregularities

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

The result showcases impressive 79.81 per cent pass rate of candidates who obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.

However, 215,267 results has been withheld due to alleged examination malpractices.

The results was announced by the Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Dr. Amos Dangut, at a briefing on Monday.

Dangut said, “A total of 1,814,736 candidates registered for the examination from 25,126 recognized secondary schools in the country.

“1,685,889 candidates, representing 93.39%, have their results fully processed and released. 119,327 candidates, representing 6.61% have one or more of their subjects still being processed due to some issues being resolved.”

He added, saying, all hands are on deck to ensure the swift resolution of issues and release of results for the affected candidates.

This commitment underscores WAEC’s dedication to fairness, transparency, and timely delivery of results, providing relief to candidates eagerly awaiting their outcomes.

However, students I n Benin Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, and Equatorial Guinea, participated in the examination where the Nigerian curriculum for Senior Secondary Schools is being used.

“Also, a total of 109,115 candidates with varying degrees of special needs registered for the examination.

“Out of this number, 145 were visually challenged, 473 had impaired hearing, 44 were spastic-cum-mentally challenged, and 38 were physically challenged.

“All these candidates were adequately provided for in the administration of the examination” he said.
