In a historic event that confirms his status as one of the best players in the world, Ademola Lookman has been crowned the 2024 African Footballer of the Year.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria forward shook off competitions from top African players to win the prestigious prize.

Lookman’s win was made even more special by his decision to showcase his ethnic identity and heritage at the award ceremony.

He and his family dressed in traditional Yoruba attire, proudly representing their cultural roots.

“I am honored to receive this award, and I am proud to be a Yoruba boy,” Lookman said in his acceptance speech.

β€œI want to thank my family, my teammates, and my coaches for their support. This award is not just for me, but for all of them.”

Lookman’s win means the award remains in Nigeria after teammate Victor Osimhen won it last year.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria forward was overwhelmed with emotion as he received the award, thanking everyone who had supported him on his journey.

“I am humbled to be part of this group of talented African players,” Lookman said.

β€œI am grateful for the opportunity to play for my country and to represent my people on the international stage.”

Lookman’s family was in attendance at the award ceremony, beaming with pride as their son received the award.

His father, who was dressed in a traditional Yoruba outfit, was overcome with emotion as she hugged his son.

As he looks to the future, Lookman is determined to continue working hard and to make his country proud.

He is a role model for young African players, and his win is an inspiration to anyone who has ever dreamed of achieving greatness.

“I want to thank everyone who has supported me on this journey,” Lookman said.

β€œI am grateful for the opportunity to play for my country and to represent my people on the international stage. I will continue to work hard and to make my country proud.”
