Utah Governor Spencer Cox has confirmed the arrest of Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old man accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Governor Cox, while addressing the press on Friday, described the killing as a “political assassination” and praised law enforcement for swiftly identifying and apprehending the suspect.

According to official reports, Robinson was turned in by a close family member and a friend after allegedly confessing his involvement. Authorities say they recovered a bolt-action rifle believed to be the murder weapon, alongside bullet casings that carried politically charged inscriptions.

The suspect is expected to face multiple charges, while federal and state investigators continue to probe possible networks and wider motivations behind the attack.

Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative figure and founder of Turning Point USA, was killed earlier this week in an incident that sent shockwaves across the United States.

Governor Cox condemned the act, stressing that violence has no place in political discourse. “This was an attack not just on an individual, but on democracy itself,” he said.

The case is drawing international attention, with analysts warning that the normalization of political violence could have far-reaching consequences.
