The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce has arrested 47 suspects, comprising 42 males and 5 females, in a clean-up enforcement operation in Ikeja and its environs.

The operation, carried out on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at around 2:30 a.m., aimed to rid the area of criminal elements.

According to Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, the taskforce swooped on areas including LASUTH under-bridge, Ikeja under-bridge, Ipodo Street, and other adjoining areas where undesirable elements had been noticed.

“We will not tolerate any form of lawlessness in our state. These areas were notorious for criminal activities, and we have taken decisive action to restore sanity,” Wahab stated.

During the operation, a peculiar incident occurred when one of the suspects arrested and locked in the taskforce vehicle stole money belonging to another suspect in the vehicle.

All the suspects will be charged to court accordingly, Wahab assured.

“We will ensure that they face the full wrath of the law. Our mission is to make Lagos a safe and livable city for all residents,” he added.

The Commissioner emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the state, warning that anyone found engaging in illicit activities would be dealt with swiftly.

The operation has brought relief to residents and business owners in the area, who have been plagued by the activities of miscreants for a long time.
