The Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu, has promised to consider the quest from group of eminent Nigerians, The Patriots, to review the 1999 Nigeria constitution.

The President made the statement during a consultative meeting with the group on Friday.

The group was led by former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, to the State House in Abuja.

However, Tinubu noted that his main priority at the moment is to revive Nigeria’s bleeding economy while other things may follow.

According to him, ““I am currently preoccupied with economic reform. That is my first priority. Once this is in place, as soon as possible, I will look at other options, including constitutional review as recommended by you and other options,”

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, disclosed the outcome of the meeting in a statement he signed on Friday titled ‘President Tinubu receives patriots, group, says strengthening Nigeria’s economy a topmost priority but request for new constitution will be reviewed.’

He further stated that the group would be invited again for more detailed discussions.

He said, “I may have to some of you again to furnish me and discuss further details of your rich submissions.

“As you present this, just believe that it will be reviewed, and I commit myself to the belief that you want a stable and prosperous Nigeria,” President Tinubu stated.
