President Bola Tinubu has promoted acting Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, to the rank of Lieutenant General in a ceremony held at the State House in Abuja.

This development comes after Tinubu appointed Oluyede as acting Chief of Army Staff last Wednesday, replacing Taoreed Lagbaja, who has been indisposed for several weeks.

According to sources, the promotion ceremony was a brief affair, taking place in the President’s office complex.

The President’s communications team confirmed the promotion, stating that Oluyede’s new rank is a reflection of his commitment and service to the Nigerian military.

Oluyede’s promotion is seen as a significant development, as it paves the way for him to become the substantive Chief of Army Staff, subject to Senate confirmation.

Oluyede was appointed acting Chief of Army Staff after his predecessor, Taoreed Lagbaja, took ill. The reasons behind Lagbaja’s indefinite leave are unclear, but sources suggest that his health issues have been ongoing for some time.
