Suspected Islamist Terrorists Attack Police Station in Ondo State on New Year’s Eve

Residents of Ipele community in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State were thrown into panic in the early hours of Thursday, January 1, 2026, after suspected Islamist terrorists attacked and set the Ipele Divisional Police Headquarters ablaze.

The assailants reportedly stormed the police facility in the early hours of the day, launching a coordinated assault that resulted in the building being burned down. Several vehicles parked within the premises were also set on fire during the attack.

The incident triggered widespread fear in the community, forcing many residents to flee their homes and go into hiding as tension spread across the area.

Videos circulating online show the police station engulfed in flames, with extensive damage visible to the facility and surrounding property. Some individuals believed to be police officers were later seen at the scene, assessing the level of destruction and inspecting the aftermath of the attack.
