State Police Not Enough, Nigeria Needs Highway, Tourist Cops – Ex-Osun Lawmaker

A former Osun State lawmaker, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has said the establishment of state police alone will not be enough to address Nigeria’s security challenges, calling for additional specialised policing units .

While commending the Senate’s approval of state police as a “historic milestone,” Oyintiloye, an APC chieftain, argued that a multi-layered policing system is required to tackle emerging security threats effectively .

“The truth is, Nigeria needs more policing structures. It is good that we have state police now. It is the right step. But beyond that, we should have other policing structures. We should have highway police, tourist police, among others,” he said .

He stressed that the new policing architecture must be technology-driven and community-oriented, with the deployment of modern tools such as CCTV cameras, drones, and digital communication systems .
