Peter Obi Files N8 Billion Defamation Lawsuit Against Kenneth Okonkwo

NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has filed a defamation lawsuit against actor and political commentator Kenneth Okonkwo, seeking N8 billion in damages over alleged defamatory statements.

Okonkwo has been served with court documents and directed to present evidence and proof to support the allegations he made against Obi. The lawsuit comes amid an escalating war of words between the two, who were once allies in the 2023 Labour Party presidential campaign .

Okonkwo, who served as a spokesperson for the Peter Obi/Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed campaign , has been highly critical of Obi since leaving the party in February 2025, describing the Labour Party as a “sinking ship” and accusing some members of using the party to enrich themselves .

He has since shifted his loyalty towards former Vice President Atiku Abubakar .
