South West Leads VAT Contributions with N2.16 Trillion, North East Receives More Than It Generates – FAAC Data Shows

The South West emerged as Nigeria’s highest Value Added Tax contributing geopolitical zone during the first half of 2026, contributing N2.16 trillion to the national VAT pool, according to FAAC data compiled by TheCable Index.

The South South ranked second with N880.58 billion, while the North Central, North West, North East, and South East collectively generated significantly less. The South East recorded the lowest contribution at N79.27 billion.

Under the current distribution formula, the South West received N691.56 billion, while the North East, which contributed only N152.82 billion, received N285.70 billion. The South East, despite contributing N79.27 billion, received N230.89 billion.

The data highlights the significant disparities in VAT allocation, with regions generating the most revenue receiving less than they contribute, while others receive more than they generate.
