Several Injured as Indian Airport Roof Collapses

A portion of the canopy at the old departure forecourt of Delhi International Airport collapsed during heavy rains on Friday with several people sustaining injuries.

Videos posted online showed vehicles crushed under giant girders at the departure forecourt of the airport’s Terminal 1.

The news of the collapse was confirmed in a statement on the official X handle of the Delhi International Airport, on Friday, June 28.

The statement reads: β€œDue to heavy rains since early this morning, a portion of the canopy at the old departure forecourt of Delhi’s Airport Terminal 1 collapsed around 5am.

β€œThere are injuries reported, and emergency personnel are working to provide all necessary assistance and medical aid to those affected.

β€œAs a result of the incident, all departures from Terminal 1 are temporarily suspended and check-in counters are closed as a safety measure. We sincerely regret this disruption and apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
