The Russian Federation has expressed its readiness to provide military assistance to Nigeria to tackle the country’s growing security challenges. Russian Defence Minister, Mr. Andrey Belousov, made this known during a courtesy visit by Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa to the Russian Ministry of Defence in Moscow.

“The assistance is in line with existing military-technical cooperation with Nigeria,” Belousov said, according to a statement by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau.

The specifics of the assistance will be determined by subsequent engagements, including the meeting of the Intergovernmental Working Group and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

General Musa’s visit to Russia aimed to reiterate Nigeria’s solidarity with the Russian Federation on its 80th Victory Day Commemoration and to reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to military cooperation with Russia.

“It also provided an opportunity for the CDS to outline the operational needs of the AFN, which Russia could potentially support,” Gusau added.

Nigerian Air Force Prepares for 61st Anniversary Celebration
In a separate development, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced that it is conducting aerial display rehearsals in Abuja and Lagos in preparation for its 61st Anniversary Celebration on May 23, 2025.

The rehearsals are designed to enhance the spectacle of the celebration’s grand finale and demonstrate the professionalism and operational capabilities of the NAF.

“We advise residents of both cities not to panic but to go about their normal activities, as the rehearsals are carefully planned and executed with strict adherence to safety standards,” said Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF. “We appreciate the understanding and continued support of the public to the Service.”

The NAF’s anniversary celebration promises to be an exciting event, showcasing the capabilities of the Nigerian Air Force and highlighting its importance in maintaining national security.
