President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his call on Nigerian governors and political leaders to place the welfare of citizens especially the poor, vulnerable, and those in rural areas at the center of their governance priorities.

Speaking during a recent meeting of the National Economic Council held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu charged the governors to deepen their investments in key areas such as poverty eradication, rural development, agricultural mechanisation, healthcare delivery, and infrastructure.

The President unveiled the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme (RHWDP)β€”an ambitious federal initiative aimed at bringing direct development to Nigeria’s 8,809 political wards. He emphasised that this programme must be jointly owned and effectively implemented by both federal and state governments to create tangible results at the grassroots level.

Tinubu further stressed the need to shift focus from politics to governance, urging state chief executives to work collaboratively across party lines for the overall development of the nation. According to him, β€œThe time for politics is over. This is the time to serve and to uplift the people.”

The President also commended the governors who have already begun implementing pro-people policies and encouraged others to follow suit by ensuring that government programmes reach those who need them the most.

With the economic realities confronting many Nigerians, President Tinubu’s charge to governors is expected to shape policy direction across the 36 states, as citizens eagerly await improved service delivery and better living conditions.
