Police Arrest Suspected Killers of Oyo Perm Sec, Olaniyan, 34 Others

Police have arrested the five suspected killers of a retired Permanent Secretary in the Oyo State Civil Service, Elizabeth Olaniyan Gbenle.

The deceased was gruesomely murdered while her valuables, including cars, a power-generating set, a substantial amount of money and other valuables were carted away during a raid on her residence in Apata area in Ido Local Government Area of the state in November last year.

Parading the suspected alongside 30 others for various crimes at the State Police Command in Eleyele, Ibadan, on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, said they were picked up at various locations within and outside the state.

One of the suspects was said to be living in the same neighbourhood as the deceased at the time the heinous crime was committed.

The suspect, who corroborated the police investigation, confessed that he had given a hint to other members of the gang.

According to him, “I lived in the same neighbourhood as the victim. She was able to recognise my face while the heinous act was being perpetrated. That is why she was strangled to death.”
