September 22, 2023 2 min read

National Youth Service Corps Director-General, Brigadier-General Yushau Ahmed, on Thursday said the management of the scheme was making frantic efforts towards the early release of the remaining five prospective corps members abducted recently in Zamfara State.

The DG disclosed this when he appeared with his management team before the House of Representatives Committee on Youth Development.

He stressed that to secure the release of the corps members, relevant security agencies were already collaborating with the traditional and religious authorities.

According to him, three of the eight prospective corps members who were kidnapped in August 2023 while travelling to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Sokoto State had been freed.

The released corps members, he said, had since been transferred to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, after receiving the necessary medical care.

Ahmed said: “We are making efforts to see that we get the children out of captivity. We are getting in touch with the bandits. From all the signs we are receiving, we are hopeful we will get them as soon as possible.”

The DG cautioned against travelling at night, stressing that it went against the safety advice that the scheme’s administration had issued to all NYSC members and prospective members.
