Drama unfolded in Abuja on Wednesday night as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) attempted to arrest former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello at the Kogi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro. Gunshots were fired as Bello’s security details resisted the EFCC operatives, leading to a tense standoff.

The EFCC has been investigating Bello for allegedly laundering N80.2 billion, and he was recently declared wanted by the commission.

However, According to report, in a surprising twist, Bello voluntarily visited the EFCC headquarters earlier on Wednesday, accompanied by the current Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo .

Despite this, the EFCC maintained that Bello remains wanted, with a subsisting warrant for his arrest .

The attempted arrest has sparked controversy, with many questioning the EFCC’s motives. Some have criticized the commission for its “commando-style” approach, while others see it as a genuine effort to bring Bello to justice .
