Men in Military Uniform Abduct Yoruba Female Lawyer, 4 Minors in Abuja

January 16, 2024 2 min read

A female Yoruba lawyer and four children have been abducted in Abuja by armed men in military uniform.

The incident took place on Sunday at Sagwari Layout Estate in Dutse, Abuja.

The husband of the lawyer, Oladosu Folorunso Ariyo, who is also a lawyer said it happened in the evening around 7:30pm.

The kidnappers, he said, stormed his residential apartment.

Ariyo whose narration was made available to Irohinoodua said the kidnappers, who seized his wife and four children at gun point were dressed in army uniform.

He explained that his first daughter, Folashade Ariyo, aged 13, had already been killed by the terrorists.

The armed men, Ariyo said, asked for N60m ransome after they had threatened him not to inform the police.

According to him, he had been able to raise the sum of seven million naira which the kidnappers refused to collect.

He said, “On Sunday evening around 7:30 pm, a band of kidnappers dressed in full military camouflage invaded my home located at Sagwari Layout Estate in Dutse, Abuja.

“They kidnapped my wife (who is also a lawyer) and our four children. The kidnappers called and demanded for 60 million ransom out of which through generous donation of friends and family, I’ve been able to raise the sum of N7 million naira which they have vehemently refused to collect.

As at today, they’ve killed his first born, Michelle Ariyo ( age 13) and dumped her corpse on Kaduna Road while threatening to kill my remaining three children (who are all minors) and wife who are still in captivity” Ariyo explained.

Attempts to reach the police did not succeed as at press time.

Abuja has recently become the focal point of armed bandits who are shifting their crime theatre from the highways to city apartments.

Experts suspect that the kidnappers are raising funds probably to buy arms in pursuant of a fundamentalist agenda.

A security expert, Bunmi Ajaka told Irohinoodua that the kidnappers appeared to belong to a ring that is pursuing a political agenda.

“It seems the plan is more than ordinary crime. This is the handiwork of Jihadists. The aim is to encircle Abuja and make the rest of the country easy prey to fulfil a long time ambition”, he told Irohinoodua.
