Man Escapes Death in Ogun Collapsed Building

October 12, 2023 2 min read

A man, identified as Seun, has escaped death after a building in the Old Bank area of the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State collapsed on Wednesday.

PUNCH Metro gathered that although no casualties were recorded, the stairs of the collapsed building fell on the victim, who was trapped for hours before he was rescued by people at the scene.

A witness who spoke with PUNCH Metro revealed that the building had been distressed for a long time before it finally caved in at about 5:20 p.m.

In a 1-minute video shared with our correspondent on Thursday, residents were seen mobilizing resources to rescue the victim from the rubble.

While dragging him out of what seemed like a channel, the rescuers asked for water to be poured on the victim, who looked unconscious in the video.

Speaking on the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident to PUNCH Metro on Thursday, said the victim was receiving treatment.

“The victim is responding to treatment after being rushed to one Demark hospital. The entire place has been closed off. We have also contacted the Local Government Authority to seal off the affected area,” Odutola told our correspondent in a WhatsApp chat.
