Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has presented the instruments of office to the new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, with a stern warning to those who collected bribes to destabilize the traditional institution.

Makinde emphasized the importance of the Alaafin stool to the entire Yoruba race, stating, “Alaafin of Oyo stool is important to the entire Yoruba race.”

In his address, Makinde revealed that he met the new Alaafin for the first time just a day before the presentation ceremony.

He also issued a strong warning to those who engaged in bribery, saying, “Those who collected money to destabilize our traditional institution will be prosecuted.”

This development comes after allegations of bribery and illegal selection processes marred the selection of the new Alaafin.

A faction of Oyo traditional council (Oyo Mesi) was accused of collecting millions from interested aspirants, prompting calls for Governor Makinde to investigate the matter.
