The Lagos State Government has issued a strong warning to residents hosting events on public roads, stating that violators will face prosecution for disregarding established state laws banning road parties.

This decision comes after five individuals were arrested in Ikoyi for blocking Raymond Njoku Road to host a birthday party, causing traffic obstruction and environmental nuisance.

According to the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the arrested offenders included Omolara Ajetumobi, the event planner; Ogundare Olubunmi, the celebrant; Ayodele Busuyi, the musician; Owoeye Adedayo, the sound engineer; and Akinola Akinkunmi, the vendor.

Wahab said, “The suspects were arrested for blocking Raymond Njoku Road in Southwest Ikoyi during a birthday celebration. They will be tried in court in accordance with the laws of the State. The Lagos State Government reiterates that no one is above the law and will not be permitted to disregard state regulations.”

The arrests were made on Saturday, October 19, 2024, by the Lagos State Task Force, led by Chairman CSP Shola Jejeloye.

Wahab emphasized that hosting events on public roads is illegal and inconveniences other road users. He urged residents to use private or government-owned facilities for social events.

Wahaab continued, “The Lagos State Government will no longer tolerate the blockade of public roads for social gatherings.

“Residents must respect the law and avoid actions that disturb public peace.” He said.

CSP Jejeloye described the act as selfish and inconsiderate, causing discomfort to law-abiding individuals. He warned that the task force would continue to monitor and arrest violators.

Residents are advised to report any closure of inner streets or roads for social gatherings to the nearest Police Station or the Lagos State Task Force.
