The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring environmental safety and cleanliness, following the arrest of a resident caught illegally dumping refuse in the Egbeda area of the state.

According to a tweet by Tokunbo Wahaab, He wrote, “On the morning of February 25, 2025, at approximately 7:09 a.m., a woman identified as Rebecca was observed unlawfully dumping refuse at Micon Bus Stop along Akowonjo Road, Egbeda.

“Investigations revealed that Rebecca was acting under the instruction of her sister, Mrs. Kate. Further inquiries showed that the household did not have a designated waste bin and could not provide evidence of registration or payment for waste collection services with an authorized Private Sector Participant (PSP).” He tweeted

However, the Lagos State Government has expressed its determination to ensure that residents take responsibility for their waste management and maintain a clean environment.

The Government has urged citizens to properly dispose of their waste and register with authorized PSPs for waste collection services.

The arrest of Rebecca serves as a warning to other residents who engage in illegal dumping, and the Lagos State Government has vowed to continue its efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment for all residents.

As part of its efforts to promote environmental sustainability, the Lagos State Government has implemented various initiatives, including the introduction of waste sorting and recycling programs, and the establishment of waste management facilities.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these initiatives and to report any instances of illegal dumping to the relevant authorities. By working together, the Lagos State Government and its residents can maintain a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment for all.
