Lagos Govt cracks down on Illicit drug trade, nabs 20 suspects in Egbeda

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce has launched a coordinated crackdown on illicit drug activities in Egbeda and Gowon Estate, resulting in the arrest of 20 individuals suspected of peddling and consuming banned substances.

This enforcement operation was carried out following discreet intelligence that pinpointed several locations where criminal elements gathered to engage in illicit drug trade.

According to authorities, the operation yielded significant results, with various illicit substances recovered, including cash proceeds from the illegal activities.

“During the operation, various illicit substances were recovered, including cash proceeds from the illegal activities,” a spokesperson stated. All suspects arrested will face prosecution, as announced by the authorities.

“All suspects arrested will be charged to court accordingly.”

This recent operation underscores the Lagos State Government’s commitment to tackling the menace of illicit drug trade and consumption in the state. Residents of Egbeda have expressed relief and support for the government’s efforts, citing concerns over the impact of drug abuse on the community’s safety and environment.
