A 21-year-old female student from Kwara State College of Health Technology, Mojisola Awesu, who had been hired by a friend to pose as a girlfriend for another university student at a party for N15,000, was found dead at a refuse dump in the Aleniboro area of Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.
DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Kwara Police Public Relations Officer, made this information public in a statement to PUNCH Online on Tuesday.
According to the PPRO, on August 12, 2024, a community resident reported that laborers had discovered a dead body at a refuse dump. This led police to the scene, where they recovered and identified the body as Awesu before taking it to a morgue.
The following day, August 13, a missing person report was filed by Miss Blessing, who was searching for her roommate, Mojisola Awesu. Awesu had left home to attend a party reportedly organized by students from two private universities in the state.
Ejire-Adeyemi further explained, “Miss Mojisola had received a phone call on August 9 from Miss Timileyin, who informed her about an event hosted by students from Summit University and Al-Hikmah University in Ilorin.”
“Miss Timileyin introduced Mojisola to Mr. Adebayo Happiness, a Summit University student, who allegedly invited her to a night party, pretending that she would be acting as his girlfriend for N15,000.”
“Upon arriving in Ilorin, Mojisola told her roommate that she was uncomfortable with the hotel accommodation provided by Adebayo Happiness and mentioned that there was no party at the supposed location.”
The police spokesperson added that after Awesu communicated her concerns to her roommate, her phone became unreachable, and subsequent attempts to contact her were unsuccessful.
She continued, “Shortly after this communication, Mojisola’s phone was turned off, and all further attempts by Miss Blessing to reach her were unsuccessful. In response, the Kwara State Police Command has arrested suspects in connection with the case. The investigation is ongoing and has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry,” Ejire-Adeyemi concluded.
