The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved the early resumption of Governor Seyi Makinde, who cut short his leave to participate in the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.

At its plenary on Thursday, September 26, 2025, the Assembly, presided over by Deputy Speaker Hon. Muhammad Abiodun Fadeyi on behalf of Speaker Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, formally received and acknowledged the Governor’s resumption letter.

Governor Makinde had earlier notified the House of his leave of absence from August 29 to September 29, 2025, but in his new letter, he explained that the historic coronation of the Olubadan required his presence and leadership.

“I shall resume duty tomorrow, 26th September 2025, and hereby assume the full functions of the office of Governor of Oyo State,” the Governor stated in the letter.

Makinde also expressed gratitude to his deputy, Barr. Bayo Lawal, for serving as Acting Governor during his absence, noting that he would now return to his substantive role.

Lawmakers welcomed the decision, commending the Governor’s commitment to Oyo State’s cultural heritage and the significance of the Ibadan traditional institution.

The House unanimously adopted the notice and reaffirmed its support for the Executive’s role in ensuring a smooth and successful coronation ceremony.
