An exploration and gold mining company, Segilola Resources Operating Limited, whose flagship project, the Segilola Goldmine, is Nigeria’s inaugural commercial large-scale gold mine, made a significant impression with its initiatives, earning commendation from government officials and stakeholders at the 8th edition of the Nigerian Mining Week, organised by Vuka Group in Abuja.
This recommendation was announced at the event themed “Capitalising on Nigeria’s Critical Mineral Resources for Economic Growth,” which underscored the pivotal role played by SROL in the nation’s mining landscape.
In underscoring the ministry’s unwavering dedication to revitalising the mining sector for increased productivity, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s steadfast endorsement of the resolutions put forth by stakeholders in the mining industry during the 3-day mining week.
He stressed that this aligned seamlessly with the President’s vision of steering Nigeria’s economy away from its longstanding reliance on oil and toward a greater reliance on solid minerals.
“Nigeria possesses an abundance of highly sought-after critical minerals, those in significant global demand. What we need are meticulously crafted methodologies, strategies, and efficient approaches to ensure the comprehensive exploration, exploitation, and management of these valuable resources. Government cannot accomplish this task in isolation”, he said.
Alake reiterated Federal Government’s firm commitment to elevating solid minerals to a paramount status, surpassing the contribution of crude oil to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product.
In his closing remarks, Alake disclosed that the event had witnessed substantial and productive dialogues, resulting in innovative methodologies for implementing government policies.
Meanwhile, he emphasised that the partnerships established would give rise to a mutually advantageous relationship between the Federal Government and stakeholders in the industry.
Also speaking, the Chief Financial Officer of Thor Explorations Limited (SROL’s parent company), Chris Omo-Osagie, highlighted the critical role of partnerships as a catalyst for unlocking Nigeria’s vast mining potential.
