I’m Not a Gospel Artiste – Timi Dakolo
Timi Dakolo has stated that he is not a gospel singer.
In a recent interview with Cool FM, the 43-year-old revealed that he was not bound to a single music genre.
Dakolo also stated that he was a creator of art, rather than an artiste.
OAP Do2dtun asked, βPeople kind of categorise you into gospel. Are you a gospel musician?β
The βIyawo Miβ star replied: βI am not, by any chance. I always say to people, βIs there a gospel banker or architect?β It is you that decided that is what you want to do. Art is art.”
He added, βI am just an artiste. In fact, I am not an artiste; I am a creator of arts. You can box my music into a particular genre. I am much more than a wedding singer. βGreat Nationβ and βWish Me Wellβ are not wedding songs. If you listen to my new album, you are going to hear that [my diversity]. βMen Of The Southβ is a song about cultural pride.β
