The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the deployment of 42,000 police officers to ensure adequate security during the Anambra State governorship election slated for Saturday, November 8, 2025.

The Force Headquarters said the massive deployment is part of comprehensive measures to guarantee a peaceful, free, and credible election across the 21 local government areas of the state.

According to the statement, the officers would be drawn from various units and departments of the Nigeria Police Force, including the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), Special Forces, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Intelligence Bureau, and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The IGP also directed the deployment of additional logistics, including helicopters for aerial surveillance, gunboats for riverine patrols, and armored personnel carriers to strategic locations in the state.

Egbetokun assured residents, political stakeholders, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the Police Force’s commitment to maintaining law and order before, during, and after the election.

He noted that the Force has been working closely with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to fine-tune strategies for effective coordination throughout the election period.

The Police Chief urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to conduct themselves responsibly and refrain from any act capable of disrupting public peace or undermining the electoral process.

He further warned that any attempt to cause violence, ballot snatching, vote buying, or intimidation of voters would be met with the full weight of the law.
Egbetokun also appealed to residents of Anambra to cooperate with security personnel and to report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest police formation.
