A 42-year-old Nigerian man, Franklin Ikechukwu Nwadialo, who also serves as Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for orchestrating an online romance scam that defrauded victims of more than $3.5 million.

Nwadialo’s conviction adds to the growing list of Igbo individuals making headlines abroad for cybercrimes, financial fraud, and transnational scams. His case has sparked renewed debate about the reputation of Nigerians, particularly Igbo nationals, in international criminal networks.
